China Solicits Comments on Expanded Use for Three FCMs

On March 20, 2025, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) solicited comments on expanded use for three additives for food-contact materials. Comments are due by April 19, 2025.
Additives with Expanded Usage
- Ammonium salt of dodecanoic acid (CAS No. 2437-23-2) is to be cleared for use in coatings and coating layers at a maximum use level of 0.6% (on a dry weight basis of the film). Coating and coating layers containing this substance may not be used in the production of food-contact materials and articles used for infants and young children. The above restricted requirements must comply with GB 4806.1.
- Hexanedioic acid, polymer with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-prop anediol (CAS No. 28301-90-8) is to be cleared for use in coatings and coating layers at a maximum use level of 3% (as coating formula) and a specific migration level of 6 mg/kg (for 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-prop anediol). The use temperature for coating and coating layers containing the substance may not exceed 121°C. The above restricted requirements must comply with GB 4806.1.
- 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (CAS No. 919-30-2) is to be cleared for use in unsaturated polyester resin (UP) plastic materials and articles at a use level of 0.01125% and an SML of 0.05 mg/kg. The use temperature for UP plastic materials and articles containing this substance may not exceed 70°C. In addition, they may not be used in contact with food containing more than 20% ethanol and the S/V may not exceed 2 dm2/kg. Also, they may not be used in the production of food-contact materials and articles used for infants and young children. The above restricted requirements must comply with GB 4806.1.
