FDA and EPA Sign MOU to Share Pesticide Data

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on March 16, 2015, that it and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to share data on pesticides and toxic substances. FDA and EPA have overlapping roles with respect to regulatory authority over antimicrobials in food applications. For additional information on FDA and EPA jurisdiction over pesticides, see the PackagingLaw.com article, The Regulation of Antimicrobials in Food Packaging.

Under the MOU, EPA and FDA may share non-public information, including memoranda, data from petitions and notifications, communications, and other documents. A copy of the MOU can be found here.
