China Approves New Food-Contact Resin

On August 5, 2024, the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China (NHC) approved a new resin for use as a food contact material and article. The resin and specifications are listed below:

  1. Poly (neopentyl glycol-co-terephtalic acid-co-monoethylene glycol-co-isophtalic acid-co-monopropylene glycol-co-Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers, hydrogenated-co-1,6-haxanediol[1]co-trimethylol propane) is cleared for use in coatings and coating layers at a maximum use level of 69% (as painting formula). The specific migration level (SML) is 0.05 mg/kg ((2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propanediol), 7.5 mg/kg (as terephthalic acid), 30 mg/kg (as ethylene glycol), 5 mg/kg (as Isophthalic acid), 0.05 mg/kg (1,6-Hexanediol), and 6 mg/kg (Trimethylolpropane). The substance may not be used in the production of food contact materials and products for infants and young children. These restricted use requirements must be labeled in accordance with the provisions of GB 4806.1.
