Dr. Rinus Rijk is one of the best known and most highly respected scientists working in the food contact area in Europe. For more than 40 years, he has served in the research institute TNO Quality of Life in the Netherlands in the field of food analysis, and specifically in migration testing of food contact materials. For almost 20 years, he has focused his attention on legislative issues relating to food contact materials, and is frequently consulted by the Dutch authorities and the European Commission when drafting technical aspects of new regulations. As an expert advisor to the European Food Safety Authority working group on Food Contact Materials, he has assisted in establishing guidelines for the petitioning of new food contact materials.

As a senior scientist at Keller and Heckman, Dr. Rijk works with firm clients on EU food contact opinion letters, EU dossiers for new food contact materials, and test protocols to develop appropriate data to support opinions and dossiers.

Dr. Rijk is the author of several publications on the subject of food contact materials, including migration and legislation on food packaging materials.
